Russian Art at the Ashmolean Museum

The Ashmolean presents a valuable selection of Russian artworks which, for conservation reasons, are displayed in the gallery's slide-out drawers.

On display are watercolours and oils by Konstantin Somov, Alexander Benois and Leon Bakst, as well as Leonid Pasternak, who is best remembered for his portraits, in particular those of Tolstoy.

Born in Odessa in 1862, Pasternak achieved fame in Moscow and exhibited internationally. In 1938 he moved to Oxford where he spent the last seven years of his life.

Tues-Wed 10.00-17.00. Thurs-Sat 10.00-19.00. Sun 12.00-17.00. Mon closed.
