29 June-3 Sept 2006. Now in its 20th edition, the Festival de Musique en l'Ile, held each summer in the churches of St-Germain-des-Prs and St-Louis-en-lIle, features church music performed by choirs and ensembles from around the world. Male choirs from Corsica, the Basque country and St Petersburg perform sacred and traditional songs at the opening concert at St.Louis-en-lIle (1 & 2 July). Other highlights include Wells Cathedral Choir performing works by Rachmaninov, Prt, Britten, Gorecki, Stravinsky and Tavener (15 July), the Tcharivni Strouni ensemble from the Ukraine (5 & 6 Aug) and Mozarts Requiem Mass performed by the Friedrich Spee Choir from Germany and the Fribourg Youth Orchestra (19, 20 & 22 Aug). Admission 30-12; students, unemployed & RMI card-holders 19-9. Concerts start Tues-Sat 20.45, Sun matine 17.00.
