21 June-8 Oct. Dulwich Picture Gallery stages the first UK show in almost a century devoted to watercolours by the Anglo-American artist, John Singer Sargent (1856-1925).
Described as "a triumph and revelation" by the Financial Times, the exhibition comprises 80 works, from private and public collections, focusing on Sargent's frequently overlooked talents as an accomplished watercolourist. Best known as a portrait artist, Sargent undertook several painting expeditions to Europe in the early 20th century, working en plein air in the Alps and Venice.
Located in Southwark, Dulwich Picture Gallery contains a significant collection of 17th-and-18th-century European Old Masters, in a building designed by Sir John Soane.
Tues-Sun 10.00-17.00. Mon closed.
