28 Sept-26 Oct 2006. One of the 20th centurys most important musical figures, Dmitri Shostakovich, is celebrated in a season of concerts in the Swedish/Danish cross-border resund region to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth. Performed in Copenhagen, Malm and Helsingborg, the programme includes all of the Russian composers symphonies played by seven different symphony orchestras, as well as chamber music and concerts for children. The opening concert at the Danish Radio Concert Hall sees the Danish National Symphony Orchestra performing Shostakovich Symphony No. 4, Nielsen Pan and Syrinx and the Nielsen Flute concert, conducted by Thomas Bausgaard (28 Sept at 20.00). Highlights of the season include Shostakovich Chamber Symphony in C minor opus 110a, performed by Musica Vitae at the Kopenhagen Garnisonskirke (4 Oct at 20.00), a Shostakovich Alive! KoncertSurpriseParty at the Basement at 42 Enghavevej (10 Oct at 20.00) and the Shostakovich Trio for violin, cello and piano Nos 1 & 2 at the Den Sorte Diamant, performed by the Kungsbacka Piano Trio (24 Oct at 20.00). The season closes in Copenhagen with Shostakovichs Symphony No 8 performed by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Andrey Boreyko at the Danish Radio Concert Hall.(26 Oct at 20.00) The evenings programme is followed by a Final Night Concert at 22.30.
