The Gagosian Paris presents new abstract paintings and sculptures by German-born American artist Sterling Ruby.
The Los Angeles-based artist used rollers and brooms to paint his new YARD paintings which contain incidental debris under the paint and whose edges feature attached scraps of fabric and cardboard.
In his new sculptures he combines huge fragments of a reclaimed American submarine with engine parts and steel pipes to create freestanding abstractions that resemble heavy machinery such as bulldozers and ploughs.
Born in 1972, Ruby is influenced by a range of eclectic sources including hip-hop, horror, prison systems, public sculpture, arts and crafts and existentialism.
