14 July-13 Aug 2006. Pariss international summer arts festival of music, dance, performance, theatre and cinema begins on Bastille Day with the inauguration of Le Grande Rpertoire exhibition in the nave of the Grand Palais, featuring over 100 pieces of theatrical machinery from angel wings and snow cannons to walking armchairs, a life-size rhinoceros and a Nutella-spreading machine (14.00-23.00 Tues-Sun throughout the festival). Theatre and cabaret in the Jardin des Tuileries includes Le Festival des Mensonges from the Congo (19-22 July), Hawaian cabaret Na Palapalai (26-29 July) and dance and song from Katerine and Mathilde Monnier with 2008 Valle (31 July, 1 & 2 Aug). Other highlights include Cabaret Nomade, new circus at the Espace Chapiteau of the Parc Villette (21 July-12 Aug), poetry reading, jazz arenas, workshops and an installation-performance entitled Roots across the world by Australian artists James Darling and Lesley Forwood at La Dfense (3-13 Aug).
