1 July-3 Sept 2006. Madrids huge summer festival Veranos de la Villa includes a season of concerts in the imposing setting of the Patio del Conde Duque. Brazilian singer Toquinho is first up (3 July), followed by Spanish rock duo Santiago & Luis Ausern (4 July), Kevin Johansen and the Nada (5 July), Cheb Khaled, the king of Algerian Ra music (6 July), the Alan Parson Project (10 July), Portuguese fado singer Dulce Pontes (12 July), The Original Blues Brothers Band (15 July), The Chieftains (17 July), Latin jazz with Michel Camilo and Tomatito (19 July), Brazilian jazz legend Gilberto Gil (23 July), American neo-soul artist Erykah Badu (24 July), Cape Verde blues diva Cesria vora (25 July) and The Soweto Gospel Choir (26 July). In Aug, Conde Duque hosts Lindsay Kemps latest dance work Elisabeth I el ltimo baile (2-5 Aug) and El Lindo Don Diego, a Spanish baroque comedy written by Agustn Moreto in 1662 and directed by Denis Rafter (8-11 Aug). Other events in over 20 venues across the city include exhibitions, open-air films, zarzuelas, flamenco, opera and a festival of tango. Details on the Madrid Council website in English and Spanish.
