This exhibition of work by young Southern African contemporary artists draws inspiration from the writings of Ghanaian author Ayi Kwei Armah, considered among the most important of the "next generation" of African writers.
Armah's works are said to "epitomise an era of intense despair" and it is this Utopian lament for a better Africa that the artists use as a springboard for the exhibition.
Their works mix the political and personal, reflecting their unease at the representation — or misrepresentation — of the continent, and in particular how Africa tends to be perceived in Europe.
The artists are Dineo Seshee Bopape, Kudzanai Chiurai, Georgina Gratrix, Andrew Gilbert, Kiluanji Kia Henda, Gerald Machona, Gerhard Marx, Meleko Mokgosi and Athi-Patra Ruga.
