The Belgians: An Unexpected Fashion Story
Exhibition devoted to the Belgian fashion world, providing an overview of its success in recent decades.
The exhibition begins with the creations of the so-called Antwerp Six, an influential fashion collective from the early 1980s comprising Walter van Beirendonck, Ann Demeulemeester, Dries van Noten, Dirk Van Saene, Dirk Bikkembergs and Marina Yee. It continues with more recent work by Martin Margiela, A.F. Vandevorst and Raf Simons, and highlights emerging talents such as Christian Wijnants and Jean-Paul Lespagnard.
The show also examines the important role of Belgian fashion academies, in particular the Antwerp Academy and La Cambre in Brussels, showcasing the cross-over between fashion and other art disciplines.
