4 Nov 2005-22 Feb 2006. The Kunsthalle in Vienna, named by Italian magazine ARTE as one of the top six European contemporary art museums in 2002, is hosting an exhibition exploring the phenomenon of Superstars in tandem with the BA-CA Kunstforum. Taking Andy Warhol as a starting point, the exhibition examines the artist as superstar (for example Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dal, Marcel Duchamp) and how images of celebrities can serve as raw material. Over 100 artists are represented, including Tracey Emin, Gilbert and George, Robert Doisneau, Joseph Beuys and Fernando Botero. Celebrity logos from Nike to Marlboro and McDonalds are also on show, and a special section is dedicated to veteran stars whose images have become icons, such as Marilyn Monroe and the Mona Lisa (the most famous painting in the history of art). Combined ticket for the Kunsthalle hall 1 and the Kunstforum 11.90 concessions 9.90. Mon-Sun 10.00-19.00, Thurs 10.00-21.00.
