One of Hungarian composer Emmerich Klmns most successful operettas, The Csardas Princess Die Csrdsfrstin is set in Budapest and Vienna in 1914, just before the outbreak of the first world war. Young aristocrat Count Edwin falls in love with Budapest music hall singer Sylvia Varescu, but his father strongly opposes the relationship. Only when it is discovered that Edwins own mother had been on the stage before her marriage is his father obliged to drop his objections. In this production at the Volksoper Wein the role of Sylvia is shared by Ulrike Steinsky and Tnde Frank. Count Edwin is played by Thomas Sigwald. Musical direction by David Levi. The Csardas Princess is sung in German with English sur-titles and runs for 3 hours with one interval. Admission 70-4. Performances 15, 23 May and 3, 9, 15, 29 Jun at 19.00, 25 Jun at 16.30.
