Influenced by Broadway and West End standards like West End Story and Les Miserables, and famous Irish writers like Sean O'Casey and James Plunkett, the musical takes place in a troubled period of Irish history, in Dublin during the civil war. An English officer, George Atkins, in Ireland to enlist supporters, falls for the beautiful daughter (Molly) of local man Peadar Cassidy.

In her desperation to escape the troubled city and country, Molly is swept off her feet and agrees to meet the dashing George at the Hapenny Bridge and run away with him to the bright lights of London.
