22 Nov 2006-7 Jan 2007. The Dei Furbi theatre company performs Marivauxs classic parable The Island of Slaves (1725) exploring the mechanisms of power at the Biblioteca de Catalunya. Snooty aristocrats Ificrates and Eufrosina (played by Oscar Bosch and Laura Lpez) are thrown up onto the beach of the island of escaped slaves after a shipwreck. There they find the rules of government inverted and their servants, Cleantis (Anna Coll) and Arlequ (Toni Vinyals), are compelled by the locals to exchange roles with their master and mistress to give them some first-hand experience of class difference from the bottom up. This production of L'illa dels esclaus is performed in Catalan and includes mime, fencing, acrobatics, song and dance. Live music by Frescobaldi, Vivaldi and Boccherini is played on stage by violoncellist Nerea de Miguel. Gemma Beltran directs. Admission 18. Performances Thurs-Sat at 21.00. Sun at 18.30.
