12 Nov 2005. The tradition of The Lord Mayor's Show stretched back some 800 years through the history of London embracing the much from the black death to the blitz and everything in between. Attended these days by a half million people, the first recorded Lord Mayors Parade was in 1215. The event today is more symbolic than it was in 1397 when Dick Whittington made his way to the Royal Courts of Justice to pledge his alliance to the English crown for the first time. Most of the great Kings and Queens of English and British history have received a visit from the Lord Mayor over the centuries. The route winds through the City of London, the square mile site of Londons financial industry, and can be reached directly from the following Tube stations: St Pauls on the outward leg, Blackfriars and Mansion House on the return trip, Bank on both, with Cannon Street, Monument, Moorgate and Temple all within easy reach.
