20-26 April 2006. Riccardo Muti conducts Mozarts comic opera The Marriage of Figaro in three performances at the Vienna Staatsoper. Based on a play by Beaumarchais written in 1784, The Marriage of Figaro is the sequel to The Barber of Seville. Set in Count Almavivas castle in Seville at the end of the 18th century, it tells the story of the Counts faithful manservant, Figaro, and his love for Suzanne, the Countesss maid. Complications arise when the philandering Count sets his sights on the lovely Suzanne. In this production Adrian Erd plays the Count, with Anja Harteros as his wife. Ildebrando DArcangelo is Figaro and Diana Damrau plays Suzanne. The libretto is by Lorenzo da Ponte. The opera lasts 3 hours 30 minutes with one interval. Admission 157-9. Performances 19.00 on 20 and 26 April, 15.30 on 23 April.
