The Naked Truth

13 May22 August 2005. Not afraid to push the boundaries in the early 20th century, Austrian artists dealt with taboos like power and sexuality, homoeroticism and gender struggles. In so doing they were often at odds with both establishment and authorities. This show depicts a society struggling to accept a new wave of modernity that sought to replace the romantic occupations of the previous century. The 180 artworks on display include key works of the period around 1900, with Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Richard Gerstl, Oskar Kokoschka, Hans Makart and Anton Kolig. Schieles shocking Die Traumbeschaute from New Yorks Metropolitan Museum will premiere in Europe, and the show will be accompanied by lectures, film screenings, and tours fronted by celebrities and artists.
