The Other Side: Mirrors and Reflections in Contemporary Art

The Belvedere highlights the varied role played by mirrors in contemporary art, examining in particular how in the 20th century the mirror was promoted from an artist's subject to an actual material and object of art itself.

The exhibition uses sculpture, installations, photography, video and film by artists whose art has been inspired by reflecting surfaces.

Exhibited pieces include Michelangelo Pistoletto's mixed media works; photographs by Cindy Sherman; and Douglas Gordon's installation using the powerful scene from Martin Scorsese's film Taxi Driver, in which Robert de Niro assumes the role of a killer while talking to his reflection.
