The Plough and the Stars

9 March-23 April. Set against the tumultuous backdrop of the 1916 Easter Rising, Seán O'Casey's play focuses on the upheaval facing the residents of a Dublin tenement shelter as they are encircled by a violent revolution.

When The Plough and the Stars premiered at the Abbey Theatre in 1926 it caused a riot. Now considered a masterpiece, it is the final installment of O'Casey's "Dublin Trilogy" alongside The Shadow of a Gunman (1923) and Juno and the Paycock (1924).

Directed by Sean Holmes, the latest version of the play is a highlight of the Abbey's 1916 centenary programme.
