15 May-3 June 2006. The Royal Ballet presents a new production of Tchaikovskys version of the classic fairy tale The Sleeping Beauty at the Covent Garden Opera House to celebrate its 75th anniversary. When the beautiful Princess Aurora accidentally pricks her finger, the ancient curse of the evil fairy Carabosse takes effect, putting her and everyone else in the palace to sleep. Thanks to the untiring efforts of the Lilac Fairy one hundred years later she is awoken by the kiss of her Prince Charming, Florimund. The part of Aurora is shared by Alina Cojocaru, Tamara Rojo, Roberta Marquez, Sarah Lamb and Marianela Nuez. Choreography is by Marius Petipa with additional work by Ninette de Valois, Frederick Ashton and Christopher Wheeldon. Designed by Oliver Messel and Peter Farmer with musical direction by Valeriy Ovsyanikov. The Sleeping Beauty runs for three hours. Admission 65-4. Performances 15, 18, 19, 22, 23, 25, 29, 31 May & 1 June at 19.30, 29 May at 14.00 & 3 June at 19.00.
