19-21 Jan 2006. Directed by Heinz Spoerli, one of Europes leading choreographers, the corps de ballet of the Zurich Opra presents their latest work, In den winden im Nichts at the Gran Teatro del Liceu. As in several of his previous dance works, Spoerli has been inspired by the music of J S Bach. The solo cello suites Nos 2, 3 and 6 provide the emotional framework for the high-energy choreography: a celebration of pure movement, shorn of dramatic intent. In den Winden im Nichts is a display of athletic virtuosity; a physically demanding piece which draws on figure skating, gymnastics and even synchronized swimming. Cellist Claudius Herrmann plays Bachs music live. The Gran Teatro welcomes back the internationally acclaimed Ballet de Zurich for 4 performances only.
