1-23 Dec 2005. Madrids Theatre Real presents Giuseppe Verdis rarely performed melodrama Luisa Miller in a production originally designed by the San Francisco Opera in 2000. Set in the Tyrol in the first half of the 17th century, the opera in three acts is based on Friedrich von Schillers play Kabale und Liebe, telling the story of ill-fated love, complicated by an arranged marriage, an unwanted suitor and filial duty, as Luisa is obliged to renounce her love for Rodolfo to save her fathers life. In this production at the Teatro Real, the part of Luisa is played by Fiorenza Cedolins and that of Rodolfo by Marcelo lvarez. The orchestra of the Teatro Real is conducted by Jess Lpez Cobos. The opera has an Italian libretto by Salvatore Cammarano and was first performed in Naples at the Teatro San Carlo in 1849.
