Works of art under Examination

23 Nov-24 Feb. This exhibition goes behind the scenes of the scientific and technical study of art at the Museo Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, including the exploration of the differences between forged, copied and original paintings.

Visitors have the chance to discover the complex work of art historians, conservators, restorers and scientists. The museum displays a series of works created on different surfaces from different periods, all of which have been examined using visible and invisible electromagnetic radiation.

This scientific process allows experts to ascertain how the artists worked and the materials, tools and techniques they used, as well as identifying any changes made during the execution of the art work.
