8 Sept2 Oct 2005. The celebrated photographers competition, World Press Photo, is as much a historical snapshot of the past year as a gallery of the worlds best press photos. Award-winning photographs are shown in a touring exhibition covering more than 40 countries and reaching over than 2 million people each year. World Press Photo 2005 saw over 4000 professional photographers from 123 countries competing for a financial prize and professional kudos. This years winner is Indian photographer Arko Datta of Reuters, awarded for a colour print which shows an Indian woman mourning the death of a relative killed in the Asian tsunami disaster.
