Written on the Wind

MACBA presents a major exhibition of almost 350 drawings produced by important New York conceptual artist Lawrence Weiner over a 50-year period.

Comprising a large and varied collection of drawings on paper, city maps, cigar boxes and wood, the exhibition brings together for the first time Weiner’s sketches from the early 1960s to the present.

The drawings and sketchbooks are displayed in chronological or thematic order — revealing many of Weiner’s private obsessions and recurring themes — and the drawings are grouped into two categories: series and materials.

The exhibited works provide valuable insights into the creative evolution of the American artist who is best known for his typographic works and installations.
