Xavier Gosé (1876-1915)

11 Dec-20 March. Retrospective focusing on the work of Spanish painter and illustrator Xavier Gosé who worked in the Art Nouveau and Art Déco styles and is described by exhibition organisers as one of the most influential Catalan artists of the early 20th century.

Held on the centenary of Gosé's death, the exhibition celebrates the artist's career which began as an illustrator in 1900 in Paris. There he contributed caricatures to two satirical magazines, Le Rire and L'Assiette au Beurre, as well as becoming known for his elegant depictions of French society.

In 1914, on the outbreak of world war one, Gosé returned to Spain, dying shortly afterwards from tuberculosis.
